Who am I?

I am a 20-year-old student living in sunny Southern California. I love living a healthy lifestyle, running, cycling, and cooking/baking my heart out. I am a herbivore and a strong advocate of local organic produce. I welcome adventure with open arms and enjoy spending my spare time out in nature, with family and friends.

Why I choose to live healthy:

Many girls fall into the trap of scrutinizing their body image. They become obsessed with the number on the scale, or the size of their clothing. They strive to fit the ‘skinny’ mold. About two years ago, I was one of those girls.

It wasn’t until a doctor told me the repercussions of my diet restrictions that I realized it wasn’t a place I wanted to be in. Food is an enormous part of life and when you make the right choices in your diet, there is no reason to force changes to lose weight. Your body will always find its balance naturally.

I choose not to use the words ‘fat’ or ‘skinny’ because they are hurtful. Everyone envisions this ideal shape, and everyone compares themselves to these bodies. More important than your outside appearance is how you feel on the inside. Find the balance that is right for you. Being fit and healthy is a better goal to strive for in life than trying to ‘fit the mold’.

As I took control of my health I began shopping at farmers markets and health food stores, purchasing the cleanest foods to nourish my body. I found that as I made this shift, fast food and junk food were no longer appetizing to me, and I also stopped worrying about counting calories. I began feeding my body what it needed: whole grains, fresh fruit, nutrient dense greens. With my diet change, I learned to enjoy food again and not fear it.

By feeding your body healthy foods and balancing your diet with moderate exercise, your happiness will exude from the inside out.

My goals:

Through my struggle and new lifestyle, I have gained a great appreciation for my body, and my surrounding environment. I eat a healthy balanced vegetarian diet, and I am so grateful for all the food harvested from the soil of the earth. I love all things about life and I learned that if you truly believe in yourself, you can conquer anything.

I hope this blog inspires you to live a healthier balanced lifestyle and be kind to others. You don’t even have to make a drastic change, the smallest bit makes all the difference!

I am a witness that living healthier IS living happier.

Treat yourself right and most importantly: love everyone and everything around you.
