Technical Difficulties…

I went on a 4 mile run this afternoon, for training. It was sunny with some patchy clouds, but overall very perfect running weather.

The past few weeks have been tough with training, because I have searched for new ways of spicing up each workout. My friend Nicky suggested I incorporate intervals, so I have mixed it up with them. I also like to keep my ‘zen’ mode of running – not worrying about my pace/time/etc., because honestly I just love going out for the fun and challenge of it! I’m sure in the future I will want to run more competitively, but for now I want to celebrate the fact that I can run.

The goal for this run: stop and smell the flowers!

I almost always complete my runs without taking any breaks. Since it was so nice outside, I took my camera with me to photograph the pretty vegetation in bloom after the rain we have had here in California recently.

After completing my run, it was lunchtime! 🙂 The photo is kind of odd-looking because I took it outside..

I made a collard wrap filled with zucchini, beets, shredded carrot, sugar snap peas, pumpkin seeds, raisins, and my favorite basil poppy seed dressing I always talk about. I also had a huge orange too.

Later on in the afternoon I had a serving of cottage cheese with whole wheat crackers and an apple.

For dinner tonight, I made what I’d like to call an egg-pie. I served it with a slice of avocado on top and a side of cooked brown and wild rice mixed together.

In the ‘egg-pie’ I whisked some eggs together with fresh dill, some squirts of Dijon mustard, diced onion, garlic, and salt/pepper. I poured it all into a pie dish sprayed with olive oil and topped it with my favorite: beet tops! It baked in the oven and turned out nice ‘n fluffy. I liked putting the beet tops on the egg mix instead of in the egg mix because the beet tops became crunchy while baking in the oven. Yum! 😀

Over the weekend while training indoors at the gym, my semi-new headphones broke on me. 😦 I think it’s because my ears got too sweaty during my workout. Too much information..I know.

I just bought the Nike headphones two months ago, they were supposedly sport headphones so I thought I would be in the clear… guess not!

The left earphone stopped delivering sound in the middle of my 12-mile run, so it was a little unfortunate to have to run on the treadmill with jut one earphone in my ear.

I just bought a new pair of Phillips sport headphones..

So far, they have been okay. I decided not to invest so much in this pair because I am afraid of them meeting the same fate as my last pair. Even though they are hooked around my ear, sometimes the right earpiece feels like it slides out. They also make my ears a little sore! But they get the job done for now.

Any runners out there have suggestions for a good pair of sport headphones? What kind do you have?

No! But if you find some good ones let me know, I have been searching–I kind of want wireless ones but don’t think I am ready for that investment at the moment…

So far the Phillips ones that I mentioned are holding up well. I found a pair that is designed for swimmers and they are proclaiming that Michael Phelps uses them.. but with marketing strategies like that it makes sense that they have a steep price tag :\
